The Southeastern Renaissance Conference invites submissions for our 76th annual conference, which will be hosted by North Carolina State University on October 18–19, 2019 in Raleigh, NC.

Papers can be on any aspect of Renaissance literature, history, philosophy, music, art, or culture. Please submit your full essay (20-minute reading time maximum, or no more than 2,500 words) here: SRC Paper Submission Module.

The Renaissance in Europe saw a reinvigorated focus on natural surfaces as a key to creating order. Medical and natural philosophical frameworks emphasized the continuity of surface between the human and non-human: skins covered the humoral bodies of humans, animals, vegetables, and even minerals. At the same time, as global encounters became more frequent and more densely interwoven in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, skin increasingly acted as a marker of social identity, hierarchy and difference.

The Literary Encyclopedia (www.litencyc.com) is seeking qualified writers to enhance its coverage of seventeenth-century French literature. The list below is not comprehensive or final, and new proposals of writers/ works/context essays that are not currently listed in our database are also welcome. However, we will prioritize articles on writers and works frequently studied in university courses, and those that are highly topical and well-known. 

 

Historical Reflections/Réflexions Historiques (HRRH) has established a well-deserved reputation for publishing high quality articles of wide-ranging interest for over forty years. The journal, which publishes articles in both English and French, is committed to exploring history in an interdisciplinary framework and with a comparative focus. Historical approaches to art, literature, and the social sciences; the history of mentalities and intellectual movements; the terrain where religion and history meet: these are the subjects to which Historical Reflections is devoted.
